Edmund Rice and Nano Nagle were founders of our parent schools; St Michaels, Mt Erin and Trinity Senior High School. Both Edmund Rice and Nano Nagle wanted their schools to be accessible by all who seek a Catholic education and in keeping with our heritage financial assistance from the Bursary Fund will be provided to students and families who, in the opinion of the Principal and Leadership Team, will be significant contributors to the College community.

The focus will be on generous endeavour in a variety of fields, rather than any notable academic or co-curricular talent. In brief, the two-way street of mutual benefit must be obvious – the student and the College are good for one another.

Fund Criteria and Application Process

Bursary Fund Criteria
 
It is important that applications for Bursary assistance are made at the same time as applications for enrolment to the College. Financial assistance is means tested and is available only to students from Year 7 onwards, when the funds will allow it. The commitment from the College is to sustain the Bursary for the duration of a child’s secondary education. Financial assistance from the Bursary Fund is given on an individual student basis. In the interests of sharing this assistance among as many families as possible, the presumption should be that a family is likely to receive only one Bursary.
 
In the interest of accountability, a family must reapply annually for Bursary assistance, in accordance with the timelines specified, and re-submit the most current financial documentation so that their eligibility for a Bursary can be reviewed. The obligation of strict confidentiality is incumbent on both the recipient family and the College Executive overseeing management of the Bursary Fund.
 
The College grants a Bursary to a student on the understanding that it is a debt of honour. In other words, it is expected that the recipient will do all in his power to repay that debt sometime in the future and give another young person the chance to have a Bursary place at Mater Dei Catholic College.
 
Bursary Application Process
 

The provision of complete supporting financial documentation is necessary before any application, or renewal of Bursary, can be processed. This will include:

 – Copies of the past two years’ tax returns

– A Statutory Declaration from the applicant’s parents attesting to their financial position(s)

If you are interested in applying for a Bursary please forward the above financial documents with a letter addressed to the Principal requesting consideration. Within your letter please provide the reasons why you have sought a place at the College for your child and outline how you believe that your child’s qualities and gifts will contribute to the College.

Any questions about Bursaries for Year 7 may be directed to the Personal Assistant to the Principal, Mrs Cindee Mallise, at the College. 

Bursary recipients will be notified early Term 4.

Nagle Rice Humanitarian Family Scholarship

Edmund Rice and Nano Nagle were founders of our parent schools; St Michaels, Mount Erin and Trinity Senior High School. Both Edmund Rice and Nano Nagle wanted their schools to be accessible by all who seek a Catholic education, particularly families living as refugees in their own penal Ireland and experienced extreme adversity as a result of a humanitarian crisis.

The Nagle Rice Humanitarian Family Scholarship acknowledges the extreme challenges that are faced by some families and may be awarded to a College family each year who have, or are currently enduring, exceptional humanitarian challenges that have led to family trauma. The Scholarship will provide 75% of the fees to students in such a family who, in the opinion of the Principal and Leadership Team, will be significant contributors to the College community. The focus will be on generous endeavour in a variety of fields, rather than any notable academic or co-curricular talent or financial status of the family. In brief, the two-way street of mutual benefit must be obvious – the enrolled students in the family and the College are good for one another.

Families are eligible to apply in consecutive years. As the scholarship supports their education, each recipient is required to demonstrate a high level of commitment to their studies and be positively involved within the College. The Fee Statement for will be automatically adjusted to reflect the application of the Scholarship. Payment of the remaining balance will be due in accordance with Diocesan requirements. This includes the capacity to set up periodical payments. 

Applications will be reviewed by College Leadership and a Family Scholarship awarded annually on a confidential basis. 

Application Process

Applications for the Nagle Rice Humanitarian Scholarship are required to provide to the Principal on a confidential basis the following information by 31 October:

  • In acknowledgement of potential language barriers, the application can be in the form of an interview with the Principal. Where necessary, this may be augmented by the involvement and attendance of a representative of a community organisation supporting the refugee family. Evidence to substantiate the adversity experienced by the students will be required at the interview.
  • Evidence of each child in the family’s engagement with learning and positive contribution to school life. This can be provided through copies of each student’s school report and evidence of involvement in co-curricular events and activities.
